Art. 68, section 3 of current Italian copyright law (L. 633/1941 and subsequent changes) permits the photocopying of up to 15% of a physical volume (book or journal), commercial pages excluded, for private study.

According to art. 68, subsection 5 of the above-mentioned law, the 15% limit does not apply only in the case of rare and out-of-print volumes, due to their limited commercial availability.
